A fifteen year old Caol Ila from Douglas Laing's Old Malt Cask Series. Smoky, sooty, medicinal, everything we want from a Caol Ila.
The Old Malt Cask range began as a release of fifty bottlings in 1998 to commemorate Douglas Laing's fiftieth anniversary. Today they offer many, many more. All bottlings in the range are non-chill filtered and contain no naughty colouring.
A meaty barbeque of a nose with charred steak and honey glazed bacon rind leading to charcoal ash and a whiff of seaweed.
Sooty and earthy leading to barley and smoky bacon.
Toffee and peat relaying to the finish line.
This Caol Ila for a peated, 50%abv whisky is a smooth operator and surprisingly mellow without compromising on the smoky goodness.
