Single Malt
Scotland
1 Jan 2013
Thompson Bros. presents a lovely Bunnahabhain single malt. Staoisha is the distillery's peaty offering and this expression was distilled in 2013 then matured in a refill hogshead for 11 years. It was bottled at a bold 53.9% ABV, with just 185 bottles.
Persian dried limes, redcurrants, salted almond praline, lobster roll, black cherries, Ghormeh Sabzi, mechanics toolbox and fruity smoke.
The smoke is enveloping, initially, the red fruits continue before turning quite acidic and savoury. The cask is in great balance with the powerful spirit. The mechanical aspect continues with a touch of WD/40, some iodine tinctures and a bit of hydraulic fluid.
Peat steals the show on the finish but doesn't dominate, cranberry follows along with nougat.
