The 2019 Kinship collection from Hunter Laing was released to celebrate the beginning of distilling operations at its new Ardnahoe Distillery on Islay, so each expression in the collection is from an Islay distillery. Here we have a rather old Bunnahabhain, aged for three long decades in a pair of casks, a refill sherry butt and a refill American oak hogshead. Finally, the 30 year old whisky was bottled at 48.5% ABV, with an outturn of 560 bottles.
On nosing, a warm fresh marine breeze is very evident and it lifts the oak gently to reveal the subtle sherry aromas. The richness of the oak, the succulent flavours of the Oloroso Sherry and the spicy vanilla from the bourbon make this spirit so amazingly viscous in texture that it lingers long on the palate.
