Has there ever been a moment when you've been sipping Bulleit Bourbon and wanted it to have even more rye? Well you're in luck, they now have their own Rye whiskey! Bulleit Rye is made with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and is produced in small batches. An absolutely stunning rye that won a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2013.
Big heaps of cherries and vanilla, with subtle notes of leather and tobacco.
Rather hot at first, the spices coming to the forefront. This is followed by peaches, more cherries and a little bit of orange zest.
A smoky finish, carried by cinnamon, allspice and a hint of sweeties.
The Bulleit distillery sure know their way around a rye whiskey.

When I feel like making an old fashioned this is always my go to!
I'm usually a single malt drinker but I have, at times, enjoyed various bourbon and rye whiskeys. I was looking forward to this for a bit of a change but I was sadly disappointed. Despite its proclaimed 45%, it seemed weak and thin. It was overly sweet with not much of the spice I was expecting. Next time I want to bite the Bulleit, I think I'll stick to the bourbon. For Rye, I'll stick to Rittenhouse 100.
But this little beauty was a very nice surprise - especially as drinking malt is very expensive now I've moved to the states (at the rate I get through bottles that is)
Bought a bottle of this recently after trying in a local whiskey bar. Very different to other whiskies I've drunk before and better than many bourbons I've tried. Good price too.
My favorite bourbon, close to Makers, but a notch above the 100 proof Jim Beam Bonded small batch bourbons. Reminiscent of Wild Turkey Rare Breed but at a much lower price point
