Black Bottle
Scotland
Blended
In early 2021, Black Bottle kicked off its Alchemy Series with two tasty whiskies, including this blended Scotch whisky titled Island Smoke (as well as the Double Cask expression)! As you might be able to infer from the name, this is a rather smoky dram – definitely one for the peat fans out there! It offers up whiffs of coastal air, scorched oak, seaweed and more, alongside familiar vanilla-rich sweetness and flashes of spice.
Toasted cedar, earthy peat, subtle toffee and cinnamon hints.
Oatcakes, seaweed, salted caramel, cardamom, red chilli flake.
Lingering salty sea breeze.

Just brilliant, just get one!
I am stunningly delighted with this find! It knocks spots off many single malts. I notice Jim Murray highly recognises the 40% version and I have every confidence he would rate this 46.3% whisky more so. I think you could present this and it would be rated as good as Ardbeg.
I bought this for my father who tends to enjoy a wee blend in the afternoon - usually Grouse or the like - but he does also enjoy a peaty malt. I bought this for him as an experiment and it seems to have gone down well. He enjoys the extra ooomph of the 46% and the smokiness is just right, he says. He would like another so it must be good.
I've honestly had single malts for twice the price that haven't been nearly as good. In this day and age the quality and flavor you get for the price can't be beat. Pick up a bottle, you won't be upset!
This is a home run! Loads of seasidey, smokey, phenolic notes up front, followed by a great big whack of more smoke, sea notes and sweet cornflakes. Really excellent stuff and for only £26 I can't think of much I've had better. PS - I don't know what the cutty sark reviewer is on about (it is like drinking brasso), this is far superior .
