Black Bottle Double Cask

One of two initial releases in the Black Bottle Alchemy Series, Double Cask brings together malt whiskies finished in Spanish sherry casks with grain whisky aged in red wine casks. Boasting heavy red fruit influence, though well balanced by subtle whiffs of toasted sugar and savoury nuts, this should make for a great late evening dram. A great start to the Black Bottle Alchemy Series, alongside the Island Smoke expression.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Blackcurrant, damson, Seville orange, walnut and coffee cake.

Palate Cherry and raspberry, with a layer of vanilla cream. Softly spicy and warming.

Finish Toasted brown sugar, runny toffee, a final hint of red berry brightness.

Reviews for Black Bottle Double Cask - Alchemy Series
A value Whisky
Okay, so as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
I had to refer to the tasting notes on this site to have any chance of identifying notes, as they are weak. This is a very mild Whisky, no complexity and in my opinion, bland. However it is cheap and an easy drink for sure. Everyone has different tastes of course.

This is truly stunning.
Having drunk Black Bottle for several years, I approached the Double Cask with confidence and high hopes. I was not disappointed.
Melding the deep redolence of Malt and Sherry with the sharper Grain and Red Wine makes for a potent mix, and I'm not simply talking about it's 46.3%. If this is what the Alchemy Series can do, I look forward to the others. Bring it on. Quite simply, if you don't buy this, then all the more for me.

Value, quality and sippability - an absolute no brainer!
The alchemists in the at Black Bottle have cooked up a stunner - red fruits, a little zesty citrus and bags of toffee. Value, quality and sippability - an absolute no brainer!

Is this really a blend
This Whisky is non-chill filtered and comes in at 46.3 ABV. The tasting notes are spot on with the Seville oranges. For the price its another Black bottle winner.

Another good Whisky
Another non-chilled Whisky at 46.3 ABV Nice and warming with a good Sherry taste. You have to keep reminding yourself, it is blend, its that good. Plus for the price is a winner.

Spot On for Quality and Taste.A Great Blend.
Bought a Bottle of this a month ago before Christmas. Was so impressed by this Alchemy Series Blend Version that I have bought two more since.Totally love this great Whisky with its 46% abv which is above the norm for a blend.Sherry Cask and Red Wine Cask is Superb and seems to be the Future for Me as I have tried the Tamnavulin Red Wine Cask Edition and that is Great Too and at a very good price for a single Malt. Will buy again for Sure.

A real Cracker!!
This is a blend?? Warming and you can detect both the sherry and red wine influences. Coupled with good ABV makes this a winner in my books

Blended whisky at it's best.
Black Bottle is a fantastic whisky and offers such great value for money, which is why I was so keen to try this. It has not disappointed... Nutty, with rich dried fruits, wood and a touch of orange zest. Really interesting grape flavour on the finish too. Big fan!

A tremendous blend of whisky
Fabulous blend, wonderful balance of flavours, harmonious with no one element dominating.
I normally avoid Black Bottle as I don’t like smoke, but this was a gift.
What a surprise not a whiff of smoke. Not very Black Bottle but a tremendous blend of whisky.
