Black Bottle Island Smoke

In early 2021, Black Bottle kicked off its Alchemy Series with two tasty whiskies, including this blended Scotch whisky titled Island Smoke (as well as the Double Cask expression)! As you might be able to infer from the name, this is a rather smoky dram – definitely one for the peat fans out there! It offers up whiffs of coastal air, scorched oak, seaweed and more, alongside familiar vanilla-rich sweetness and flashes of spice.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Toasted cedar, earthy peat, subtle toffee and cinnamon hints.

Palate Oatcakes, seaweed, salted caramel, cardamom, red chilli flake.

Finish Lingering salty sea breeze.

Reviews for Black Bottle Island Smoke - Alchemy Series
Beautiful peaty whisky
After the first taste you are hooked on this fabulous whisky. Really strong peaty taste very similar to Ardbeg but half the price. Definitely one of my favourite whiskey's and a wonderful find. Taste it and be amazed.

Not Up To The Task
I get the mild smokiness of burnt wood, but it is very vanilla, not peaty enough for my palate as I am more used to the likes of Teeling Blackpitts Peated Single Malt. Then, after a couple of minutes when you breathe out through your nose you get the scent of TCP! But, it's a decent enough blended Scotch Whisky for the price

Nice and peaty
Another excellent Whisky from Black bottle, non-chill filtered and at 46.3 ABV. It is nice and peaty, and in my opinion the peat is just the right amount. Another winner from Black bottle.

If you like a strong peaty whisky this is a must try.
Excellent whisky that is as the bottle states, full of flavour, and a powerful peaty punch, at a price that ensures I'll be coming back for more.

An unknown winner!
I am stunningly delighted with this find! It knocks spots off many single malts. I notice Jim Murray highly recognises the 40% version and I have every confidence he would rate this 46.3% whisky more so. I think you could present this and it would be rated as good as Ardbeg.

A present much appreciated
I bought this for my father who tends to enjoy a wee blend in the afternoon - usually Grouse or the like - but he does also enjoy a peaty malt. I bought this for him as an experiment and it seems to have gone down well. He enjoys the extra ooomph of the 46% and the smokiness is just right, he says. He would like another so it must be good.

Quality phenols for a great price
I've honestly had single malts for twice the price that haven't been nearly as good. In this day and age the quality and flavor you get for the price can't be beat. Pick up a bottle, you won't be upset!

Excellent - hard to find better for the price
This is a home run! Loads of seasidey, smokey, phenolic notes up front, followed by a great big whack of more smoke, sea notes and sweet cornflakes. Really excellent stuff and for only £26 I can't think of much I've had better.

PS - I don't know what the cutty sark reviewer is on about (it is like drinking brasso), this is far superior .
