One of two initial releases in the Black Bottle Alchemy Series, Double Cask brings together malt whiskies finished in Spanish sherry casks with grain whisky aged in red wine casks. Boasting heavy red fruit influence, though well balanced by subtle whiffs of toasted sugar and savoury nuts, this should make for a great late evening dram. A great start to the Black Bottle Alchemy Series, alongside the Island Smoke expression.
Blackcurrant, damson, Seville orange, walnut and coffee cake.
Cherry and raspberry, with a layer of vanilla cream. Softly spicy and warming.
Toasted brown sugar, runny toffee, a final hint of red berry brightness.

Black Bottle is a fantastic whisky and offers such great value for money, which is why I was so keen to try this. It has not disappointed... Nutty, with rich dried fruits, wood and a touch of orange zest. Really interesting grape flavour on the finish too. Big fan!
Fabulous blend, wonderful balance of flavours, harmonious with no one element dominating. I normally avoid Black Bottle as I don’t like smoke, but this was a gift. What a surprise not a whiff of smoke. Not very Black Bottle but a tremendous blend of whisky.
An absolute triumph. More blended whisky should have the strength upped; makes so much difference to the grain. The two wine cask finishes are in perfect harmony. If the producer of this is reading, please add it to the core range: you’ll bring many new fans to the brand. The Island Smoke is also superb!
