Scotland

A big bodied blended malt from Islay. It comprises malt whisky from Caol Ila, Bowmore, Ardbeg and Port Ellen. Big Peat is a great whisky with lots of peaty character.
Warm slabs of tangy peat. Hints of chocolate, coffee and cedar with spices, walnuts and almond. A touch of cinnamon with oily smoke.
Simple, easy going, but delicious. Notes of heavy smoke, cut grass, peanut, spices and peat.
Quite abrupt with cut grass, coastal notes and smoke.

I really wanted to like this -- am a huge fan of Islay malts, particularly Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila and Bruichladdich, and had hopes this would be the first Islay blend I could enthusiastically recommend. And...not so much. Sure, it's got some phenols, but it tastes rather like a mashup of short-aged tails from each of the distilleries that contributed -- sadly, a case where the whole is less than the sum of the parts. Spend a little more, and just get a standard expression from any Islay distillery, and you'll be happier.
im a big fan of islay malts so i figured it would like this, but boy was i wrong. maybe i just need to give it another taste but it wasnt enjoyable at all. its like they isolated the peat flavor and got rid of any other taste to the whisky, oddly giving it an almost tequila-like taste.
the ultimate taste of Islay - peated, sweet, fresh, maritime, citrus....
really excellent Islay Malt here. as name suggests it is big and peated but with a real sweet, burnt sugar earthy, saltiness too. I've fallen head over heels in love with Big Peat!
You can't go wrong with this one !
