Douglas Laing

A big bodied blended malt from Islay. It comprises malt whisky from Caol Ila, Bowmore, Ardbeg and Port Ellen. Big Peat is a great whisky with lots of peaty character.
Warm slabs of tangy peat. Hints of chocolate, coffee and cedar with spices, walnuts and almond. A touch of cinnamon with oily smoke.
Simple, easy going, but delicious. Notes of heavy smoke, cut grass, peanut, spices and peat.
Quite abrupt with cut grass, coastal notes and smoke.
Great aroma to fire up the palate. I was at one end of a table for 12 and the far end people picked up the aroma as soon as I sat down. And then tasted the peat. Yummie. Why would you add a mixer to a malt??
Very nice on its own - goes down easily and has plenty of peat. But not a huge fan of the underlying sweetness. If you add a mixer that sweetness becomes overwhelming. Still, would recommend for sipping!
Quite simply divine. I was gifted this for my birthday and am now back buying a bottle. Such was the quality.
I was a bit put off by the "trendy" branding but decided to give it a go as the description of the balanced, smokey, peaty blend contained malts that I love in their own right. I am very taken by the complexity and smoothness of the result and the accurate description. So, against my usual old-fashioned clinging to single malts approach, Big Peat proves it is time to add blends from Douglas Laing. A definite five stars with a splash of water.
Was given a bottle of this and I WANT MORE!! Imagine stirring your dram with a charred Oak stick, then throw in some leaves, vanilla and banana. Oily, tarry and utterly AWESOME. I usually ONLY drink Irish Whiskey, but I'm a convert.
