Scotland

A big bodied blended malt from Islay. It comprises malt whisky from Caol Ila, Bowmore, Ardbeg and Port Ellen. Big Peat is a great whisky with lots of peaty character.
Warm slabs of tangy peat. Hints of chocolate, coffee and cedar with spices, walnuts and almond. A touch of cinnamon with oily smoke.
Simple, easy going, but delicious. Notes of heavy smoke, cut grass, peanut, spices and peat.
Quite abrupt with cut grass, coastal notes and smoke.

Big Peat proves that blends can hold their own in value and quality and they really offer something different. Considering its provenance this is a wonderfully balanced dram, the finish is a bit short but i suspect the dry oiliness has a lot to do with that, the nose and the wonderful palate more than make up for it. Excellent stuff and a must try for any smoke heads.
I approached this whisky expecting a big Islay "peat hit", perhaps something similar to a Laphroaig or Ardbeg 10-year old. What I actually got was something a bit different. There's a surprisingly strong marzipan sweetness on the nose and palate (the Bowmore?), followed mainly by a Caol Ila-like oiliness. Not a lot to the finish unfortunately. Neither a bad whisky nor a great whisky. However, I will add that the X-mas cask strength version is a significant improvement over the 46%.
It delivers. If anyone were to ask me what an islay whisky should be i'd stick a glass of this under their nose. Clearly young but nothing impure or newmakey about it. If your a peat head this is worth your time and money.
Very rough neat. Added an ice cube(or water) and changed 100 % Very good
Does not deliver.
