Whisky lovers looking for a 42 year old scorcher (and do use that term) will simply love this. This was distilled at Benriach on the 18th April 1966 and aged in hogshead number 1019 before bottling at cask strength on the 15th October 2008. Part of a release of 175 decanter bottles, bottled by Signatory and packaged in a stunning wooden case.
A sweet nose with notes of Tokaji, stem ginger, cola, honeyed malt and nuts. Has a jammy feel to it.
Sweet and malty and still jammy. Quite wine-like actually. It’s big on barley, and rather spicy, yet its racing top notes bely its 42 years.
Tangy, woody. Develops on barley, which gains hints of blackcurrant and spiced apple.
