Great discovery.

Found a bottle of this at the back of my whisky cupboard. I bought it some years ago and at the price I paid for it I wasn’t expecting anything special. How wrong was I? A very pleasant and enjoyable dram which serves well as a sipping whisky of an evening. Ok, there are better whiskies out there but this one proves that you don’t have to pay a fortune for a decent dram. Will restock when this bottle is finished.

great for the price

There are better whiskies out there, but they're all going to cost at least twice as much as bank note.

Above Average as is..

However, adding a little peated Islay [I used Gordon & Mcphail 2004 Caol Ila Cask Strength], or similar, really gives this whisky a much needed 'lift' I think.. It's now a much more complex dram, with sweet honey, malted fruit, heather, sweet peat, stewed fresh gunpowder tea, coastal salinity and a much longer finish, peppery with a light smokiness in the background throughout.. Very enjoyable sipping whisky with a little water if you like ?

Utterly delicious sipping scotch for $20. Crazy. I know.

For the price...around $20. Can't be beat. It blows the doors off JWB. Yes, I'm not a fan of many blended scotches. Prefer a good highland or speyside style single malt. And on occasion even a nice Islay. I like the peaty smoke occasionally. But not as a daily drinker. This falls more in the realm of the sweeter speyside/highland style. And is quite delicious. Nothing comes close for the price except perhaps Ballantines.
