You might not have had the opportunity to try single malt from Speyside's Balmenach distillery before, though if you've enjoyed premium blends like Johnnie Walker, it's likely that some of this impressive whisky has passed your lips in blended form. Independent bottlers occasionally get their hands on a cask, and as of now, that includes us here at Master of Malt! Distilled in 2013 and filled into a refill hogshead, before finishing up in an oloroso octave cask, which we opened up at the end of 2021 to release a total of 385 bottles.

Burnt sugar, hot caramel, dark chocolate with almonds, creamy coffee, rice pudding.
A glorious lick of toffee coats the mouth followed by a light dusting of pepper. Rich and sweet, with creamy notes of dark beer and char leading to more spicy oak and chewy toffee pennies.
A medley of brown sugar and spice, with toasted oak, chocolate buttons, a touch of treacle, and barley water.

Rich, weighty, Speyside. The oloroso cask finish works really well.
A lovely dram, a little water and it opens up. Toffee pennies for sure, sweet and spicy, another belter from MoM!
I’ve just received this whisky, my first pour, and it’s tremendous, it’s fruity, toffee, very smooth, it’s just lovely, I’m expecting great things as the bottle goes down. 45 quid for a lovely cask strength whisky, get it in your basket. Thank you Master of Malt…….
