Single Malt

Not often you see Balmenach single malt, is it? Very exciting stuff. This is an independent bottling of whisky from the distillery in Speyside, who are known for rather bold, meaty malts. It was distilled in September 1983 and matured in a single refill hogshead for 30 long years, before being bottled in December 2013 by Douglas Laing for their Executive Decision range (Executive Decision is the name of their Directors' Cut range outside of Europe - hence why you might find the bottle shape & presentation box rather familiar). 111 bottles were produced.
Cigar box, currant buns and dates. Quite bready. Meaty malt continues to develop.
Layers of cooked apricot and raspberry, followed up by buttery shortbread. Deeper hints of cacao, peppercorn and molasses.
Soft winter spices stick around, along with a kick of rye.
