Description

A robust Speyside single malt from Balmenach Distillery, bottled by Signatory from a first-fill oloroso sherry butt. Distilled in 2008 and matured for 17 years before bottling at a hefty 57.8% ABV, this is dense, spicy, and sherried without becoming overly polished.

Nose

Dark raisins, walnut cake, espresso, and damp oak, with leather, clove, and orange oils.

Palate

Thick layers of fig jam, treacle, cocoa nibs, and roasted coffee lead into black pepper, cinnamon, and earthy malt.

Finish

Lingering sherry richness and drying spice.

Real belter!

This is lovely stuff. The sherry influence is dialled back enough to allow the Balmenach new made spirit to reveal itself. Needs a little bit of water to release the taste and what a palate! Another cracker from Signatory Vintage
