Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Thick, concentrated fruit sweetness with some botanical whiffs. Woody thick caramel.

Palate: Powerful, concentrated and rich, there are prunes, dates and sultanas along with caramalised peel and wooded caramel.

Finish: The sweetness fades into an oaky note.

Overall: A rich yet well-structured PX.

Nice but a bit too intense for me
I’ve got in the habit of having a bottle of the Gozalez Byass Matusalem (Oloroso sherry) every Christmas but this Christmas just gone I thought I’d try this Noe as I’ve never had a PX sherry before and wow, it’s certainly an interesting experience. The nose is incredible, you really get a sense of it’s maturity (not as much as the Oloroso though) but it is a struggle to pick up the maturity on the pallet and that’s probably because it is so insanely sweet. Its just like they’ve taken a really good rich sherry and loaded it with icing sugar, the viscosity is super thick, it’s more like some kind of syrup to use on deserts than anything. You really can’t drink much of it, well I can’t anyway but like I said it is an interesting experience and I’m glad I’ve tried it but I'll be going for the Oloroso in future.

Noe doubt about it
Having purchased this whilst visiting the Gonzalez Byass Distillery last year, I've been very careful to only allow myself a small glass very occasionally. It is without doubt the most delicious 'sherry' I have ever tasted rom the first sample at the distillery to the New Years glass I have beside me now, it is simply wonderful. Rich, thick, fruity and totally over the top. It's difficult to resist the temptation to stick my tongue in the glass to remove all trace of this thick oozy delectation! Highly recommended.

Surprisingly delicate
Pours like crude oil - thick and deep brown, with a mahogany glint. Lots of mocha on the nose, and a core of dried fruit - like raisins soaked in brandy. Almost leathery, it's so thick. Surprisingly mild and light taste. Golden syrup, dried cherry and apricot, long milky coffee finish. This is lovely, delicate stuff with good balance - but no knockout
