Freihof Williams Pear

Williams Pears work outstandingly well in spirits, so it's no surprise that Freihof chose the eponymous pear for its 1885 range of schnapps. This is super juicy, and for the cocktail-minded of you, could do very well in a pear Martini.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Super ripe and juicy pear, with a drizzle of honey, lemon sweeties, sweet nougat notes and a touch of bitter almond.

Reviews for Freihof 1885 Williams Birne (Williams Pear)
An excellent introduction to schnapps( if you haven't tasted it before) with an authentic smell and taste.
I bought this for a schnapps aficionado, (half German ) and he's very impressed with it. He said you can smell and taste the pear, it's very smooth to drink, not at all fiery and you get the warming schnapps taste at the end.
He highly recommends it

Pure essence of Williams Pair with a crystalline alcohol kick.
I agree with everything that the customer on 21st of June said. Short of paying twice as much for an Alte Birne or similar, this is as fine a pear distillate as you are going to find. Very pure and stylish. Well priced.

Excellent Eau de Vie for the price
This should probably be categorised as an eau de vie rather than a schnapps. Austrian (and German) schnaps (usually written with one "p" and sometimes called "Edelbrand") is a clear, unsweetened distillate of fermented fruit, like French eau de vie. It really has nothing to do with the flavored and sweetened liqueurs that are often called schnapps in English (and that make up most of the schnapps category here).

This is a well-made example of an Austrian Edelbrand, with intense pear aromas and flavours. No off flavours, just the essence of pear, and just a bit of the burn that you'd expect from an unaged spirit. While I might wish for a bit more complexity, that's hard to get without spending significantly more. Ignoring the price, I'd give it four stars, but at this price point it deserves five.
