The Islands that surround Scotland are a popular region, though one that is not recognised legally (instead it falls within the Highlands region). Distilleries include the malty, citrussy Arran, on the island of the same name; the oily, smoky Jura; Highland Park and Scapa on Orkney to the north, both of which produce heathery, honeyed whiskies; the Isle of Skye houses the renowned Talisker distillery, which produces very youthful, spicy whiskies, and of course Mull plays home to Tobermory, which makes soft, sweet whiskies.
