A dark rum from the Black Bottle Distillery - the same folks behind IQ Gin in Oxford. After being matured in oak, this rum has taken on plenty of warming spice notes along with waves of caramel and honey.
Apple chips, honey, cardamom, peppercorn and runny caramel.
Could never get tired of drinking this rum, one of the best I’ve tasted.
Decided to try this after reading the positive reviews. Sorely disappointed. The rum has a terrible yeasty smell and aftertaste. The only rum I have not been able to force myself to drink. Dunno if it's gone wrong in maturing but based on this bottle, it's horrible.
Nice surprize, great for a cocktail or a winters evening to warm the belly.
I have been a rum and coke drinker since the age of 18, 50 years on I thought I'd found the best tasting rum ever "Jeffersons Rum" from the Lake District, but when my daughter bought me Oxford 55 for my Birthday two years ago it blew my taste buds out of the water and have never returned to Jeffersons. My experience of Rum is this, with coke it always weakens the flavour of any rum but with Oxford 55 its flavour is so strong and intense you would think you had put 2 doubles in ! The taste of liquorice, molasses etc... are very strong and also drinking it neat is a sheer joy too but in small doses !
best rum i have ever tasted, i'm a pensioner and been drinking rum ever since i was 18, had many types but this has got to be the holy grail of rum for me !!!
