A favourite here at Master of Malt, this is a truly superb Guatemalan rum, blended using the solera system, and including rums aged between six and 23 years. Sublime stuff, matured in a mix of bourbon and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
Very sweet and nutty, honey and chocolate. Dark brown sugar, gentle smoke. Pipe tobacco.
Very sweet and soft. Dark brown sugar, molasses, rounded, so gentle!
Thick, medium length, hint of smoke on the tail.

I have tried many 20+ y.o. rums and this is my standard. I always happily return to this sublime rum. It has converted several brandy and single-malt aficionados to enjoying the smooth and flavourful depths it offers. Amazing stuff!!
I love rum's but only dark rum and this is a rum that sets standards exstreamly high indeed. This has to be one of the best rums in the world and is dangerous in the sense of it been so nice you want more and you end up very drunk indeed. The amalgam of flavours is truly exceptional from the first sip to the very last it is a sensory over load and I highly recommend you all try this as this is at the pinnacle of dark rum's and the years of labour of love put into this tipple shows in the taste !.
To start, rum is my favourite tipple. However, in South Africa we have very few rum choices (lot's of good brandy though). So the choices thus far is Capt Morgan (dark) and some Havana rum. So I tend to drink the Captain because I have a sweet toothe. This saturday I saw the Ron Zacapa 23 and altough it was 3 times more expensive, I bought it. It was brilliant, smooth and the best Rum i have tasted, it was really an enjoyable sip and well recommended.
Went to buy a bottle at a Virginia ABC store after trying some in Vegas. $50 a pop here. The other reviews speak for themselves. However, I opted for the Zaya Gran Reserva for $35. it is an excellent alternative and just as good, maybe better. if you try it you won't be disappointed.
If you can name me one single rum on this website that is cheaper and better, I'll be INCREDIBLY surprised. What is there that's better at ANY price point?? I prefer this to the XO because of it's extra "bite". Anyone saying this rum is overpriced is perhaps a little deluded, given the lengths that the producers go to in order to make this stuff... This is an incredible, complex and yet perfectly accessible spirit. From the most hardened and cynical spirit buff, to the least experienced weekend drinker, this product scream quality, from the first sniff to the end of the lingering finish. Oh, and an Old Fashioned with this is the finest drink known to man. Unbelievable. As always, a few people always want to knock the one at the top of the pile!
