A particularly decadent rum from Ron Zacapa, long-aged in a Solera system and allowed a finishing period in French oak casks from Le Bois du Roy - the wood comes from four French forests, protected since the 13th century when the King imposed strict restrictions on the harvest.
Rich notes of roasted walnut and diced almond, with a hint of marzipan. This soon gives way to dark chocolate, treacle and damson elements.
It a nice rum but it’s not worth another £150.00 over the XO. At the end of the day the best Rum I’ve ever had from Ron Zacapa is the Reserva Limitada 2014 edition where the barrels had spent time in the herb garden or something but it effected the casks so much in the end product it was divine and it was hands down the best rum I’ve ever had and following that would be the XO and then this. The glass bottle is so thick and heavy like 1.5 to 2 Kg empty and the walls are so thick with a hooped decanter lid. If it was crystal I’d pay the money happily but as you can see I’m talking more about the glass bottle than the rum it’s self so that should give you an idea where my mind is with this slick marketing and clever design. Loraine Vasquez your a clever person but my palate is cleverer. Sorry but I feel severely let down so my score is going to reflect this because it become very evident once I tasted this rum.
