“It would seem you either like Cuban rum or you don't! Some taste honey, fudge, others can't seem to get past the gentleman's club leather and tobacco (with a touch of fusel oil to finish)! I'm definitely in the first camp, as you can probably tell by my 5 stars. I found this for a similar price to Havana Club 7yr. It has a very similar flavour profile to Havana Club as well; maybe a touch sweeter, but I've not tried them together to test this. Certainly, if you like HC 7yr old then try it!”

Description

Enjoyed in Cuba since the 1960s, the rest of the world is finally getting to taste the excellent Ron Cubay. Their Anejo rum is aged for 7 years before being bottled, allowing it to mellow out and grow deep with flavour

Nose

Freshly roasted coffee beans and soft, crumbly fudge.

Palate

More rich coffee and fudge, but the 7 year old rum has a wonderfully warming peppery heat deep within.

Finish

Soft fudge and chocolate on the finish.

Overall

Both mellow and exciting, it's a well balanced rum that can be easily enjoyed neat.

Too Dry & Smoky for my liking!

Neat, it’s dry and fruity and tastes more like a whiskey than a rum. In the finish, it has a smoky tobacco taste, (think of Jim Beam Bourbon) and an alcohol burn that is harsh and unpleasant. Turned into a long drink with the accompaniment of Coca-Cola, this rum is much more enjoyable. That smokiness in the finish is more restrained, the alcohol burn becomes less jarring and overall it becomes a tad sweeter.

Delightful Apple Pie Aftertaste.

Smooth Cuban rum with a moderate kick and delightful Apple Pie aftertaste. Not too viscous, this rum is very popular in Cuba where it represents a more affordable choice for sociable drinking. Very pleased that Master of Malt carry this very product. Carries a minimum 5 years of aging in Oak casks with no artificial additives. 38% alcohol. Lovely stuff!

Excellent sippin' Ron

A lovely Cuban rum, a sweet smooth delight that (even though it's younger) works great as a sipper. You won't find better for the price!
