Mainbrace Rum is built using a blends of dark rums from Guyana (from three different stills, no less) and unaged rhum agricole from Martinique! A unique combination, and a marvellously tasty one too. Suitable for sipping neat, but also very tasty in a cocktail or even with lime juice.
Honey-glazed apple, gingerbread, cut grass, brown sugar and cedar.
Splendid lighthouse shaped bottle! I'm not a rum connoisseur but here are my thoughts - The rum is more rummy and less spicey than, say, Kraken. However it's not as sweet, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. It might be sacrilegious to some but I thoroughly enjoyed it with Fevertree ginger beer (a Kingston or rather, Georgetown Mule perhaps?). I have to say that it was unremarkable when tried over ice, but it's still worth 4 stars. I don't like the residual chemical flavours some drinks have (not just cheap rum or gin) but this didn't have those residuals. Nor did it have the "burn" some people are suggesting here - that could just be my age and "years of experience" drinking! This (my bottle) was the regular strength, not the Navy version - perhaps the burn comes with that one.
Rough spirit. Very poor offering - I was expecting something a lot smoother
I thought I hated rum. I'd clearly been doing it wrong
Interesting and excellent discovery. Light, complex and very moreish. Pretty cool bottle too!
A great rum. Its not too sweet and works in so many combinations.
