Veritas Rum

Veritas (which is the Latin for 'truth', and was the name of the Roman goddess of truth) is an intriguing and delightful rum was created from a collaboration by the wonderful Foursquare and Hampden, as well as Italian bottler Velier. This unique white rum features a mostly unaged blend of Coffey column still rum from Foursquare and pot still rum from Hampden. Nothing else was added and no filtration was used before Veritas was bottled at 47% ABV at the Foursquare Distillery in Barbados. It's amazing in Daiquiris.

We reckon Veritas is one of our Best Rums under £40!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Vanilla pod, custard and fresh tropical fruit with some vegetal elements lead. Sticky molasses, banana and a little creamy nuttiness develop.

Reviews for Veritas Rum
A flavour journey in one bottle
I guess it all depends on what you want from your mixer. If you don't want to taste the rum, buy something that doesn't taste of much - there's plenty of cheap options out there.
But if you approach cocktails as a platform for great rums to shine, and love the variety of flavours out there, then you maybe bowled over by this as I was.

It's dry, spicy, smooth. Bit of toffee, and an unmistakable whiff of what I learned was Jamaican funk. It made me go out and find Foursquare and Hampden rums, and that for that I'm deeply grateful.

Ironic then, that by the end of the bottle, my journey had already found more flavourful options and I found this a little anonymous in comparison. Hence 7/10

Dry mineral beach air and hard licorice candy.
Pineapple. Unripe mangoes. Cola gummies. Lime.
Slightly coke-y, tarry: fades.
Dry. Salty. Also sweet.
Makes a fresh and fabulous rum & coke. I sip it neat though.
Old school.

Superb daiquiri rum
Incredible blended white rum from 2 highly regarded producers. Probably my favourite daiquiri rum, though that extra quality does come with a heftier price tag. IMO worth it though.

Over-spending rum
Do not buy this expensive rum, thinking it is good for cocktails!
The Daiquiri Cocktail made with Veritas was really disappointing in terms of taste and ABV. Take a real Cuban rum (the Country of Daiquiri) as Santiago de Cuba, and save £5-£10 bottle, with more satisfaction.

Very tasty in a Cuba Libre.
It’s scary how quickly this bottle gets finished once it’s opened. Best accolade I think a white rum can get. Must buy another soon.

A Very Expensive Mistake
At £34, I was expecting huge things from this rum especially considering everywhere trumps how great the Daiquri's made with it taste. I was immensely disappointed. I've made 100's of Daiquiris, I make them very well. The Daiquiri's made with Veritas really aren't that special. I've tried making other drinks with it too and all you can taste is this rum. It completely dominates and overpowers every other drink I've made including a Santiago and several El Presidente's. I'm literally forcing myself to finish the bottle. If this was a £15-£20 bottle, it probably would have gone down the sink.

On the plus side it's fairly smooth for a high-ish ABV drink. That's about it really. Buy a bottle of Havana 3 or El Dorado 3 or Plantation 3-Star. They're all better rums and substantially less expensive. In fact, in some supermarkets you could get 2 bottles of Havana 3 (a characterful Cuban rum that's great for Daiquiris) and still have change from the £34 it would take to buy Veritas. I'd never buy this again and wouldn't recommend it. Even at half the price.
