Brugal Anejo is a 5 year old Dominican rum. The company was founded by Andrés Brugal Montaner. The majority of the board members are actually descendants of Montaner.
The nose is full of caramel and dark brown sugar, buttery toffee and a little spice with pepper and vanilla. The palate is smooth and rich and rather dry with buttery spice notes and dark sugar, a little oak. The finish is of good length with dark sugar.

Taste of spearmint. Ok neat but foul with coke.

Not your typical sweet, molasses-y aged rum. Has caramel like notes, but there is more of a buttery richness accented by a dry, earthy mushroom (think the smell of raw mushrooms with a little mud still on them) flavor that is intriguing, unique, and pretty enjoyable. This mushroomy flavor is most apparent on the back of the palate and the finish. This rum is drinkable neat but I feel it is better suited to the rocks, though too good for mixed drinks. If you have a sweet tooth, look elsewhere (maybe try some Zaya or El Dorado 12). If you're hankering for a drier rum, try Brugal. Their white rum is also excellent for mixed drinks.

Ok, so I am by no means an expert in rums but I know this; this is the only rum I have tried so far that does not burn on the way down and make be cough at the first few sips. First time I tried I had to keep checking the bottle...is there even alcohol in this stuff? Yep. Mellows you out real fast, like the taste.

Sadly considering the lovely bottle design this a pretty average rum, with a peculiar taste of mushroom in my opinion.

Went to Dominican in Puerta Plata, drank this stuff for 2 weeks straight. Finally found it a few months ago in England. Now I can't help but always have a bottle at hand. Lovely stuff. Does catch you out. One minute you're sober, the next your laying on your back laughing.

Never was a rum drinker until our vacation to Puerto Plata, went to the distillery, drank a whole bunch while there and brought alot home. Went back again this year, two years in a row, but this time to Punta Cana, drank alot again and brought more home. Tastes great and goes down so good it doesnt last long. Glad to know I can get it here in the states. Love it!!
