Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
The nose is full of caramel and dark brown sugar, buttery toffee and a little spice with pepper and vanilla. The palate is smooth and rich and rather dry with buttery spice notes and dark sugar, a little oak. The finish is of good length with dark sugar.

For the price, this is a good buy. Nothing outstanding but easy to drink

Issues with cork taint
Tasted this as part of a set of drinks by the dram and I was taken aback by the intense aroma of cork taint. This is one of only a few spirits I've tasted affected by taint and obviously it could come from several parts of the production process... A quick Google search for "corked rum" returns several references to Brugal on the first page, so I wonder if this is a long-term issue their production. Old barrels could be the culprit, or indeed corks used to seal the bottles. It's pretty hard to taste past the cork taint but beneath it, there's a nice rich vanilla palate and soft caramel notes. A shame!

Amazing value for the price
This is truly beautiful tasting Rum, sweet and smooth, but with enough "fire" to keep it interesting. I had the more expensive Brugal a while ago, and was not overly impressed with it, this however is right up my street and for less than £20 cannot be beaten for value. Deep rich chocolate, carmel and Molasses flavours.

Aftertaste
Bought a bottle on a recommendation from one of my coworkers. I am sightly disappointed. Drinking it neat, the aroma is nice, a mild caramel-ish sweet, and the burn is subtle. However it is followed by what I can only describe as possibly a plant based aromatic. Reminds me of cellulose a bit. I see mentions on here about the flavor changing and I might expect this is the case as my coworker literally called it the best rum he had ever drank neat. It's definitely good enough for some rum and cola, so I think that is how I will enjoy the rest of the bottle I have. I'm giving 3 stars because the burn is subtle. The unidentified aromatic is a bummer.

changed
They seem to have changed the flavour recently, it was my favourite rum but not now. They ruined the Brugal white also, undrinkable now.

A rum as smooth as they come. A great drink.
A wonderful smooth delicious dark rum. Just the best. It has that great easy smooth taste on the tongue unmatched by others. A winner and favourite in my opinion.

Not good value
Taste of spearmint. Ok neat but foul with coke.

Dry, earthy, rich, delicious
Not your typical sweet, molasses-y aged rum. Has caramel like notes, but there is more of a buttery richness accented by a dry, earthy mushroom (think the smell of raw mushrooms with a little mud still on them) flavor that is intriguing, unique, and pretty enjoyable. This mushroomy flavor is most apparent on the back of the palate and the finish.
This rum is drinkable neat but I feel it is better suited to the rocks, though too good for mixed drinks.
If you have a sweet tooth, look elsewhere (maybe try some Zaya or El Dorado 12). If you're hankering for a drier rum, try Brugal. Their white rum is also excellent for mixed drinks.
Thank you!
