Aged for 8 years in Limousin oak, Barbancourt's 5 star is a double-distilled, copper pot still rum from Haiti.
Rounded, crisp. Vanilla sweetness. Oak, tangy. Fruity.
Full, gentle Caribbean smoke, atop spices and fruit. Balanced oak.
Tangy and long.
If you don't mind a dry rum, this is a special, incredibly reasonable sipper. The sugars, fruit, spices and almost tannic oak come together well. The only thing holding the 5 star back is its inability to improve much on the 3 star expression, which remains my favorite value rum.
