Crusted Port is made from a blend of vintages with very little ageing and then kept, like a vintage port, to mature in bottle. This offering from Niepoort combines the 2012 and 2013 grape harvests from various vineyards around the winery in Vale de Mendiz alongside other old vineyards in the Pinhão valley, aged in large old wooden vats until bottling in late 2014. You'll want to decant this before serving, and the folks at Niepoort suggest pairing it with dark chocolate desserts, cheeses like cheddar, gouda, or brie, or alongside spicy red meat and game dishes.
