Winner of 1 awardCasa Montelobos
Montelobos Joven Mezcal is made with espadin agave and carefully crafted by Iván Saldaña. This offers up a well-balanced blend of roasted agave notes, herbaceous elements and a classic whiff of smoke. It also offers a really stylish bottle with a rather ferocious-looking wolf on the label.

Pretty solid. Not your grandfathers mezcal
SOFT. Medium smoke. Slight kiwi, lime ( empty glass is very lime-y ). Blackberry, cherry, vanilla yogurt. Pine needles, woodsy. Gentle light rubber. Mild taste and aroma wise at first, but about 2 weeks in, the palate really does come out. The smoke remains mild, but the agave develops full, rich and spicy. Licorice. Baking spices. Hint of black pepper.
Espadin is the most common agave used for mezcal but this Montelobos is extremely well done compared to others.
