    Escubac

Escubac is an impressive, handsomely presented liqueur produced as a collaboration between Sweetdram (a collective of distillers now based in Edinburgh) and Combier (a long-running French distillery in Saumur). It's a re-imagining of a traditional, long-forgotten French liqueur, featuring notes of caraway, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, coriander, cubeb, green anise, lemon, liquorice, sweet and bitter orange, nutmeg, star anise and vanilla. Excellent as an aperitif, this can be enjoyed over ice or with tonic water if you prefer a longer serve.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Spiced orange pomander balls, creamy vanilla and warm, winter spices, with a touch of liquorice.

    Sweetdram doing it right!

I am one of those people who are moving away from gin - quite frankly i’m sick of seeing it absolutely everywhere. This is such a complex, tasty botanical spirit. Can’t wait to sit in the sun & enjoy this!

Outrageously good neat AND mixed with tonic

I'm a massive gin fan and just fancied a change. Saw this in a magazine, loved the label so thought I'd give it a bash. Absolutely love it and so do all my friends. Bravo!

I don't love this, but you might.

Interesting but underwhelming, to my palate. A complicated mix of herbal flavours with the cardamom/cinnamon bits dominating. If you're looking for an aperitif that doesn't have the strong citrus or gentian flavours that pretty much define the category, then you may well like this, but I miss that bitter punch. I do think the recommendation to drink with tonic is a good one, if you don't like gin or want something (very slightly) less alcoholic.

    Try it

I love this. It is great to have as a nightcap or a refreshing aperitif with ice. Its got a bitter orange taste which I love but there's something herby to it too, like a digestif.

    dare to be different!

Sweetdram have done a great thing here. It’s difficult to create a “new/different” drink that everyone will love and be interested in buying when what’s available is already so great. I love that this isn’t a gin but closely resembles the best gins you can buy, it really is something different and tastes fabulous. I’ll be buying again!
