A classic aniseed liqueur, Anisetta Meletti was first produced all the way back in the 1870s. Good in cocktails or mixed drinks, or for simply enjoying over ice.

I bought this to cook with and much to my surprise found it a bit too sweet and the anise flavour a bit too understated for my purposes. The consolation is that these qualities made it pretty nice to drink! I find most anise/fennel based liqueurs (pastis, etc.) too strong, both in abv and flavour, to enjoy, but this stuff served with some ice and fizz is a really pleasant and mellow summery aperitif.
