When I lived and worked in Greece, the influence of our shipowning clients from Chios led me to choose Apalarina, but over time this seemed too sweet. I was introduced to Plomari by a hotel on Crete (!), after I'd retired, and it has become my favourite ouzo - two ice cubes, perhaps a dash of water - so it is nice to find it available at a reasonable price in the UK. Now to visit Lesvos and the distillery.....!

This is THE Ouzo. Any greek bar or taverna worth it's mastic sells this ouzo. You can trust me. I'm Greek. Well, Cypriot actually but most people don't realise Cyprus is a separate country to Greece ANYWAY definitely get this because this is the good stuff. Also, to serve it properly, pour a healthy measure over the biggest, FATTEST icecube you can. Trust me. Induldge in your inner Greek Bapou. You won't be sorry.
