Gammel Dansk is a Danish bitters, and the name literally means "Old Danish". It was first created in 1961 and it is flavoured with herbs and spices including star anise, nutmeg, ginger, laurel, gentian, Seville orange, cinnamon and others. The recipe remains a secret.

Nice and refreshing without any after taste of alcohol.
I am a Dane living in the US. My father was a knight in the order of Dannebrog of the Queen of Denmark. Gammel Dansk is beyond description. It is a mountain of flavor and an adventuresome experience. I hope that someday it is again available in the US.
When I return from Denmark I buy a Gammel Dansk, the best recipe: 1 part G.D., four parts tonic water, ice... is there any better on warm days?
Very good! Trying it with a new friend from Denmark who has brought a few different drinks to try including this. It smells delightfully of citrus and herbs. Made my stomach feel much better after last night and drinking so much!
Soothing drink with complex flavor
