Gammel Dansk

Gammel Dansk is a Danish bitters, and the name literally means "Old Danish". It was first created in 1961 and it is flavoured with herbs and spices including star anise, nutmeg, ginger, laurel, gentian, Seville orange, cinnamon and others. The recipe remains a secret.

Great Danes love gammel dansk
I have known gammel dansk for 50 years and I only drink it: one shot after a bad night out, one shot one Sunday morning with my breakfast, one shot if I have an upset tummy, one shot if I have a bad head ache.
I never have more than one shot.

Very bitter, Just love it, hard to find it though.
Love it!
Very hard to find it though here in Ireland. Airport staff have never heard of it. Off licences have never heard of it, and now I see they've brought of a 'Half Bitter Dram'! Has Honey and liquorice in it I think, and what's this 'Shot'??

The best drink ever!
It is the best drink ever! When I first had it I was completely unprepared and was shocked by it's bitterness but it grew on me, and now I enjoy it more than any other!

Drink with beer as a "SET", as in Denmark!!
I've been drinking Gammel Dansk for over forty years and it is good for almost any occasion. However, the new version, Gammel Dansk SHOT, with its extra herbs and spices is even better!! Please get some in your stock!!

A great dram!
Gammel Dansk is an acquired taste, but oh boy, is it ever good! We love it with coffee in the morning. It calms nausea and wakes you up, warms you up. Not sweet like Jagermeister, nor bitter like Campari, just perfectly in between. I wish I could buy it in Canada

I was introduced to Gammel Dansk by a Danish friend here in Colorado. She advised I must make three toasts, drinking one thimbleful of Gammel Dansk after each toast. Gammel Dansk tastes SO good, warms you when it's snowing outside, and brings friends together after a great meal. Drink Gammel Dansk! You'll be happier!

One for the memory books, bit like southern comfort, soothing but too much is enough! I couldn't drink often, best saved for the flavour and occasion.
