Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin (That Boutique-y Gin Company)

We present you with a quandary. You wish to enjoy the fantastic combination of pineapple and gin, but you don't fancy hacking away at a pineapple and sticking a fistful of pineapple chunks into your glass (which is understandable, as pineapples are notoriously cumbersome and pointy). What to do? That Boutique-y Gin Company presents you with a solution to this quandary - Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin!

A commonplace tipple of the '20s, pineapple gin fell off the map and was lost to time for a while. That Boutique-y Gin Company have rescued it from that fate and given it a 21st century twist. Whole pineapples are roasted on a spit with Demerara sugar until they're gloriously caramelised, and they're then combined with a particularly bold gin, helping to cut through the sweet, toasty pineapple. Serve over ice, or with some Ting if you can get your hands on it.

Much like a fine wine, some sediment may evolve in the bottle over time. This is due to the natural interaction between the real fruit ingredients and the spirit, and does not affect the ever-evolving flavour of the gin. You can pour the gin off the sediment, or simply shake it in.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Authentic pineapple sweetness, with waves of sharp citrus and slightly earthy juniper. Sugar caramelising in a pan with a stick of cinnamon.

    Palate

Mouthwatering tropical fruit right from the start. Hints of honey, orange blossom and oily juniper. A couple of enjoyably sour pineapple notes develop on the mid-palate - perhaps some Lilt, too...

    Finish

Lightly charred sugar, cardamom and lasting fresh pineapple drenched in caramel notes.

    Utterly vile

What were they going for here?? Unless you use a mixer that TOTALLY overpowers this “gin” (a term that I’ll use in the loosest possible sense), it’s utterly undrinkable. Has a vile aroma - actually makes me gag. Had this on our bar for a while and I would hazard a guess that 70% of customer brought it back, saying that it was “off”. Tried it with Ting, ginger beer, ginger ale, lemonade, soda and the only thing that even makes it remotely palatable is a potent ginger beer. And that’s only because you can’t taste it. Would STRONGLY advise you to avoid this monstrosity. Can’t even really begin to describe the aroma of this. Closest thing I can say is a post-festival pair of socks - your only pair that you’ve worn for 5 days. Don’t get it.

    Like Lilt

1:1 ratio with Ting and dash of lemon juice is just amazing.
