An unusual gin from the Black Forest in Germany, Monkey 47 contains a unique ingredient. No, not that! Cranberries! The 47 comes from the number of botanicals that go into this unique gin, and the fact it's bottled at a healthy 47%.
This plethora of ingredients has paid off, and in 2011 Monkey 47 won the World Spirits Award Gold in the Gin category and Gold for best in class for the Gin Worldwide at the International Wine and Spirits Competition London. Not bad!
Nose: Oh there is a lot going on here... woody, vegetable smells under pin fresh grassy citrus notes and botanical sweetness, like a pine forest after the rain.
Palate: Predictably complex, this is a robust and powerful gin with plenty of spice, fruit and herb flavours. It's very well structured, and difficult to unpick but a citrus fresh start segues into pine and wood notes for a drying finish.
Finish: Wooded and reassuringly heavy.
Overall: A unique gin, that is crying out to be made into a Martini. It'll need an equally robust vermouth though.

The only gin I will drink
27th April 2017
Most complex yet very smooth. I have it neat, and every sip is better than the previous! Really worth every penny. I especially like the complex lemon notes from the numerous lemony herbs and fruit. Really fantastic.
17th April 2017
I had a Monkey 47 with Thomas Henry Grapefruit lemonade at the Tate Modern last night and thought it was fabulous.
8th April 2017
I would buy a lot of different gins and I thought this gin was totally average. Wouldn't buy it again. Far better gins available than this. Disappointed.
19th March 2017
I try any/every gin--and have never encountered a "favorite" (depends...on the weather, time of day, cocktail recipe, etc.). The Monkey sorta reminds me of Hendrick's-- "contemporary" style, fruity--but smoother, more complex, well balanced, weightier. It's almost like a gin liqueur! So far, I can't bear to drown it in a cocktail: All by itself, in a thin-crystal glass...over one perfect rock. Dazzling.

Seriously good, bought on a punt that it would live up to the reviews....it did and then some. Managed to drink half a bottle on it's first outing. Citrus and pine yummyness.
24th October 2016
This is the best, I don't even need to keep looking, all other gins hold only disappointment now.
12th October 2016
Easily purchased in Washington DC from a wonderful liquor store at 18th n K street. By far the best gin I've yet to taste, worth every penny. I just wish there were bigger bottles.
21st September 2016
Best gin I've every sipped
17th August 2016
I accept I am single malt snob. I tested this at wine club gathering in Singapore recently and was immediately hooked on to the same. brought couple of bottles immediately for my bar. is best way to taste thisSuggestion to all my single malt friends please try this. One of the best drinks I ever had. On the rock
11th August 2016
This is an exceptional gin with an exceptional nose and a great taste. Highest quality! Different! But be careful - it doesn't go with every cocktail! 11 out of 10 for the gin and 8 for its cocktail potential.
6th August 2016
On a beautiful, starlit night in Aruba, my companion and I returned to our lodging at the New Amsterdam Resort and stopped at the outside cocktail lounge for an end of the evening drink. Our bartender, appologized if he appeared to be distracted but there was a party of approximately 6 individuals testing gin. The gin they were savoring we quickly learned was Monkey 47 Gin. Having had a long association with extra, extra dry Gin Martinis, I was, over the top curious. To my surprise and good fortune, the bartender gave me a taste. I was hooked. Monkey Gin was the best gin I had ever tasted. Upon returning home to the United States, I tried several times to purchase a bottle. However, was informed that it was not shipped to the United States. Which of course I later discovered was not correct. It is not shipped to Upstate New York but could readily be purchased on Long Island and also in Florida. One day on returning home from work, there on my porch sat this beautiful bottle of Monkey 47 Gin. I just wanted to let you know that this Sunday, eight of my dearest friends will be joining me to "let out the monkey."Thank you. Nancy Hennessy

really nice gin hard to get you're head round this one,all sorts of things going on here....loved it.
Anyone who considers him/herself somewhat of a gin "connoisseur" knows this is the highest quality gin available. Everyone I know hated Gin, especially Gin & Tonics. Fast-forward a few months later, everyone I know loves a Monkey 47 Gin and Fever-Tree Tonic Water with sliced Cucumbers (unnecessary since it's Monkey, but the only acceptable garnish if that's an interest.) Since I discovered Monkey 47 four years ago, I've yet to experience anything anywhere nearly as bold, delicious, or unique. It truly is quite the experience.
20th July 2016
I've been drinking gin for roughly 15yrs now. I've dabbled in everything from the worst to the best, the cheapest to the most expensive, the mainstream to the unknown. A dear friend was given a bottle of this as a gift. This friend does not care for gin, so he passed the bottle along to me knowing my affection for the delicious variety of alcohol. I keep a regular stock of Hendricks in my liquor cabinet as this is my typical "go to" drink of choice (2 ounces, one ice cube, pure delight). I poured my first sampling of Monkey 47 in my favorite glass over one cube of ice.......I was immediately lost in pure ecstasy. My wife - shockingly - even thought it was "pretty decent", and she hates gin. Monkey 47 is a MUST TRY for any gin conoseuir.
16th July 2016
It's official... I'm a gin snob. sweet tea, a sprig of fresh mint and Monkey 47. The perfect summertime/anytime cocktail
26th June 2016
Intially nothing remarkable, then it ignites with a lemony citrus bang. No bite, just warm overtones. Very strange in a nice way. I added fevertree tonic, which is popular at the moment, suprisingly the taste remained constant until the last sip. This is one of my top 3 gins at present
12th June 2016
Superbly complex and utterly drinkable
11th June 2016
The best gin ever
The best gin. Not really the driest.

With the 1724 tonic water ...nothing beats this for a devine experience.
22nd March 2016
Had it last night at The Raccoon Club. Brilliant
6th March 2016
label grabbed my attention and who doesn't love a monkey. Well now this peppery monkey creature is superbly on my back and call me Bawana but I am on safari with every drink--- iced or a poured classic martini.
13th February 2016
This really is a top gin. Don't spoil it with tonic, just an ice cube (though a drop of orange bitters works very well). It's slightly stronger than most other gins, and you can certainly taste it. There's lots of flavours from the botanicals - it's quite fruity and rather spicy. This really is a gin to rival the complexity of a good single malt whisky. Highly recommended.
9th February 2016
Found this in a little shop in Monterey. Wonderful.
29th January 2016
In my humble opinion this is the best gin in the world, and I have tried a lot.

Undoubtably the best martini I've made. Been a big sapphire fan, but now my taste buds are compromised. May need a second job to afford it however.

Tried to carry out a non-scientific test to find the best gin in the world, still working my through them all, but Monkey 47 is by far the best so far. Just can't get enough of it.
7th October 2015
This is the best European gin outside UK in my opinion. A cheeky surprise of flavours and a musky gin that never fails to make me smile.Perfect with deep chilled fevertree and nothing else.
24th August 2015
One evening at a local Inn, the bottle caught my attention. We asked the bartender what it was. One smell and we were spellbound. Best gin ever. Ran out to get our own bottle and have been hooked ever since. Terrific

30th April 2015
tried this gin in Berlin - great gin and tastes best with Thomas Henry tonic
16th April 2015
Probably the best gin ever. I like Tanqueray10 and Oxley but this has to be the best. Fevertree tonic and a twist of lime - sublime.
12th April 2015
Delicious flavour, introduced with a bottle by a German friend, great find!
11th April 2015
Wow!This gin is quite simply one of the nicest I have tasted!! With a slimline tonic it is a classic combination in which all flavours are complimented.
9th April 2015
I had this when I went to a decent UK restaurant. It totally blew my mind. This is the best gin I've ever had. It goes well with the traditional tonic, or vermouth, or a bit of plum, or even just with a little ice - it's heavy enough to hold up by itself. And it is unique, cannot recommend enough.
6th April 2015
I have tried many a Gin, but none compare to this! I couldn't quite make out initially what I was smelling but I felt like I was sitting out in a meadow on a Spring day. This Gin is an absolute delight to drink. Beautiful, refreshing, intense. My favourite, definitely. If you like Gin, you must try this!
4th April 2015
It is amazing! I love it!! The best of the best! xo

4th October 2014
Drink with Pedrino tonic for the most exquisite G and T. Nothing like it!
3rd October 2014
Superb! One of the smoothest gins I have ever tasted ..... Definitely best taken with simply ice and perhaps a few leaves of mint or slices of cucumber. Would suggest not adding tonic of any kind to it (even Fever Tree!) .New Favourite Gin!
1st August 2014
I tried this in a gin bar in bath and have finally hunted down a bottle of it for myself! I like it with a sugar free tonic water and lots of ice, you don't want anything to interfere with the flavours here. It's a really fab drink!
Barcelona has a very big gin scene and this was one of many, many gins I drank. It was my hands down favorite and I highly recommend it.
29th June 2014
The best gin I've ever tasted, also. I mix it with one cube of ice, freeze the bottle or put a touch of excellent water with it to open the character up.
9th June 2014
We expanded our gin range at our establishment and I ordered this on the strength of the below reviews...the first bottle was emptied in two days! After trying it neat and in a G&T, I have to agree that it is the top 5 best gins I have come across!
23rd May 2014
Best gin I have had. Just returned from a trip to Southern Germany, including the Schwarzwald region and had the opportunity to try this. Simply better than any gin I have had to date.

29th March 2014
best gin discovered so far
10th March 2014
One of the best I have had, and my current favourite. The type of gin where you want to drink the whole bottle in one sitting, but you know you'll be sad when it's gone. Has a lovely aroma. It's a shame the bottle is so small!
23rd January 2014
First tried it in Cambodia, the bottle was removed from me as I would have sat there drinking it all. It must be the best Gin available especially when drinking it neat.Thankyou
21st January 2014

24th July 2013
My partner was so impressed by Monkey 47, he brought the empty bottle back from Frankfurt. One sniff of what was left, and I was hooked. Thank goodness we found a UK distributor. This gin is surprising, bold, complex and uncompromising. Pair it with Fever Tree, and there is nothing like it. Simply, the best.
9th June 2013
Absolutely amazing gin. Unforgettable with a good quality tonic - no ice - in a tall tasting glass. Had this gem before a meal of seafood - perfect. Extremely nice presentation also - looks great as a valuable addition to a home bar
23rd April 2013
I first tried this gin about a year ago in Barcelona and fell in love with it. I brought back to bottles to Canada where it is unfortunately not available (I'm working on that). This is by far the most complex gin I have tasted and definitely a welcome addition to any liquor cabinet. Agreed with the comment above about the pairing with Fever Tree...
21st April 2013
This is amazing! A real intrigue tasted straight and just perfect with Fentimans tonic.
8th February 2013
Fascinating taken straight, but i definately reccommend in a collins with a touch of cranberry juice to bring out the sweetness. In fact, this gin is sensational with just cranberry juice alone!
27th November 2012
first tasted in Brugges and blown away.a complex and inviting taste sensation.Great with fever tree tonic and fresh lime.
