Rock Rose Gin Bottling Note

Rock Rose Gin is made at the Dunnet Bay Distillery all the way up in Caithness, Scotland. This very northerly gin features an alluring botanical selection including locally harvested Rhodiola Rosea, Rowan Berries, Sea Buckthorn, Blaeberries, Verbena, Coriander Seed, Cardamom and Juniper from two different countries - Italy and Bulgaria. They use a traditional copper pot still, which of course has a name (it's Elizabeth).

Rock Rose Gin Reviews

After work on a high

I discovered Rock Rose gin in a beautiful village called Ashton in Eastern Northamptonshire. I was very please with the crisp quality and it was served with Rosemary to offer both aroma and flavour. In my top 5!

Beautiful flavors.

I was fortunate to be introduced to Rock Rose gin at the Mash Tun bar in Edinburgh. ABSOLUTELY heavenly with a flow of delicious sublety from start to finish. Very light juniper influence. Delicious!

A super fine experience

Very complex yet smooth botanical taste. Flavor it slowly for the full enjoyable experience. Nice premium quality.

Wonderful gin

I tried this at a Christmas fair and fell in love. Wonderfully balanced and full of flavour. A real treat to savour and enjoy. Delicious with the rosemary toasted.

Ok but nothing special

16th May 2017

This gin is so great! Best part of finishing our days visiting Scotland!

Awesome gin, a beautiful taste of the highlands!

Rock Rose is my favourite gin. There seasonal range is top notch too!

12th April 2017

Fab gin - great flavours and quality product

Lovely aroma and botanical flavours- bottle is class too

8th February 2017

Fantastic gin

I too received this for Christmas. Perfect just over ice but I will be experimenting with various fruity herby additives. However, sometimes you just cannot beat the pure flavour and for me rock rose could be the gin to enjoy purely with a plain premium tonic.

AMAZING!

Got this for a christmas pressie and it is beautiful. Tried with the recommend serve of toasted rosemary and it smells amazing and so delicious. Going to try with orange next. I've tried many gins and this sits right up there at the top.

Quite good slightly harsh and has a burn

Loved this gin!

Had this yesterday - it was served on the rocks with orange slice and rosemary sprig (the bar person heated the rosemary first to release the oils) - it was gorgeous!!!

13th November 2016

One of the finest gins in the western hemisphere!

Deserves 5 stars! We first tasted it in Scotland, and we want more!

Happy tastebuds found here

I am an amateur gin enthusiast. I have sampled 80+ gins and can honestly say that Rock Rose is one of my all time favorite gins. It is delicate, smooth, fresh and utterly delightful.

Works well with Fever Tree Tonic but needed some citrus, I tried both lime and grapefruit and I think the grapefruit worked the best. Was a bit rubbish in all the cocktails I tried sadly, flavour got lost.

5th May 2016

Gorgeous on the rocks

No need for ice or water with this one.

26th March 2016

Tried a lot and this is up there.

This gin is in my top 5 of my collection. It has a unique taste that works best in a gin and tonic, but holds up okay in cocktails. Excels in a dirty martini. The bottle is rather special too.

20th March 2016

Expensive Tesco gin.

Bought this on reading reveiws should have stuck to our favourites, Silent pool/Monkey 47,far better tasting gins. This is really for mixing with tonic so save your money and buy Gordons/Booths/plymouth.
We prefer our gin neat or on the rocks,to savour the flavour but this has no dominant flavour just juniper,so will finish bottle and go back to my favourites.
IMO 2* is fair comment.

17th March 2016

Favorite

By far my favorite gin, ever.

Best gin I've had! First had it in Inverness.

5th December 2015

louise

Lovely wee gin .....just add fever tree and grapefruit perfection in a glass

28th November 2015

Proper stuff

So much better than the normal run of the mill stuff

12th November 2015

Spare the lime

Hold the lime. Try with a healthy sprig of Rosemary.

This Beer Blog: https://thisbeerblog.wordpress.com/2015/02/22/my-first-gin-review-rock-rose/

Neat: The nose has Juniper, Red currant, Sea Buckthorn, a medicinal sweet quality followed by an iodine sea salt note.
On tasting it neat: there are notes of juniper and red fruit, this is followed by some soft spice, soft sugar and sea salt notes.
Adding a small amount of water: The nose opens up slightly allowing the Sea Buckthorn and Juniper notes to come flooding through, this is followed by confectionery sugar, sea salt and now some citrus orange peel notes.
On tasting the sweetness is now a lot more prominent followed by the red berry and juniper notes this finishes in a dry sea weed & iodine taste which rounds out the flavours nicely.
With tonic water (in this case Fever Tree) On the nose there is a lot more citrus, this almost makes the juniper more prominent, there are now notes of orange peel, lemon rind, cardamom, a creamola foam sweetness and red berries. The sea side notes have now been pushed to the peripheries.
On tasting with tonic the orange is now much more prominent but in this case it leans toward a blood orange flavour. This is followed by red berries, soft spice, juniper, oak, sugar sweetness and drying sea salt notes which in my view accentuate the sweetness,

The best gin I've tasted

I had my first taste of this very delicious gin as a present for walking a friend's dogs, it is truly the best gin I've ever had. Since then I've had a few bottles in my possession and anyone I pour a glass, absolutely falls in love with it! Very smooth, great depth of flavours, a very enjoyable experience!

12th May 2015

Nice but not the best

I did enjoy this gin but felt that it was a bit overpowering in the alcohol fumes.

Nice flavours but not as smooth as other Scottish Gins such as the Botanist

9th April 2015

Lovely Gin

Had a glass of Rock Rose Gin last week at the Moonfish Café in Aberdeen, served with a twist of orange peel and a sprig of rosemary, superb.

14th March 2015

Amazing - the best gin!!

I LOVED this gin! Tried it in a bar in Manchester, so very moreish and just lovely to enjoy. Would highly recommend, full of flavour.

20th February 2015

Truly magnificent

I was like the other reviewer in that I didn't drink gin. Too many have put me off with there in your face perfume smell. Rock Rose is different. Light but full of wonderful flavours. Where were you 30 years ago?

15th January 2015

Best gin I've ever tasted

I don't know much about gin, but I went to a gin bar recently and this was by far the best tasting. Open, complex, and beautiful flavor. Could drink it on its own but mixed it with some elder flower tonic which was lovely.
I normally never drink gin, but I'll start for this.

26th December 2014

Took my breath away - Try it.

A real discovery. Pleasantly suprised to try this gin as a gift. It's the first gin that really changes with the garnish. I have heard about this before but never had the pleasure of experiencing it. Try it with a small touch of grapefruit and then with chilled grapes. Great gin!
