Stolichnaya is a very well-known brand of vodka, which has its roots stretching back to 1901, though no one is really very sure of Stolichnaya’s exact date of birth - some say 1944, some say 1946, some say 1948, and there was a trademark patent dated 1938. So yes. it’s a rather contentious subject indeed. In 1972, Stolichnaya began to be imported to the United States by Pepsi, who were able to sell their soft drinks in the Soviet Union. Stoli (as it is colloquially known) is produced both in Russia and Latvia - two companies that produce it have disputed the ownership of the brand for years.
