A staple of cocktails across the land, Midori Liqueur was Suntory’s answer to the shortage of high-quality fruit liqueurs in western markets during the 1970s. It was originally launched in New York in 1978 at a party for the cast and crew of ‘Saturday Night Fever’, but the history of Midori goes back a little bit further than that. Hermes Melon Liqueur (a precursor to Midori) was launched in the Japanese market in 1964!
Midori stands out on back-bars with its unique bottle shape and bright green hue - in fact, the name itself means “green” in Japanese. The flavour profile is based around the flavours of two varieties of meleon grown in Japan, muskmelon and Yubari King melon. It was originally produced in Japan, but over the years production has been performed in Mexico and France too.
