Gilbey’s was founded in 1872 by brothers Walter and Alfred Gilbey, who began distilling in Camden Town, London after the Crimean War. As they grew and became more successful in the 1880s, they acquired whisky distilleries in Scotland, such as Glen Spey and Strathmill, as well as gin distilleries in Canada and Australia.
In 1938, the brand was sold to the US and today is owned by Diageo. The full list of 12 botanicals used in its famous London Dry gin is a well-kept secret.
