Firstly, let’s get the pronunciation out of the way. ABK6 is pronounced something like ‘a bay cassis’ which is how you say the name of the founder Francis Abécassis. Clever, non? The brand dates back to 2005 when Monsieur Abécassis bought the 380 hectare Domaine de Chez Maillard, near the village of Claix, with vineyards in Grand and Petite Champagne and Fin Bois planted with ugni blanc grapes.
All aspects of production from viticulture to distillation to ageing take place on the estate. The company produces everything from rare vintage offerings to Cognac liqueurs and Pineau des Charentes. While ABK6 is packaged in a modern way, the Domaine also produces more traditionally-styled Cognac under the Cognac Leyrat and Cognac Reviseur brands.
