Camus Île de Ré Fine Island

The first of three Île de Ré releases from Camus, making the most of this island near La Rochelle that lies within the Cognac appellation. It's matured in lightly toasted casks within a damp cellar for a unique profile.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Dried apricot, citrus and definite coastal, briney character.

Reviews for Camus Île de Ré Fine Island

If old pulteney is the maritime Whisky then this Camus has to be the maritime cognac !

Fantastic, it reminds me of a single malt whisky in wick, Scotland. Old Pulteney has a very similar salty briney finish and it’s so nice to find it in a brandy from France. They have a lot in common because they both have taken on the salt air from the marine environment as the barrel breaths and contracts in and out over the cold and hot seasons and they both are matured next to the sea. There is a spirit the Swedish have (at least I think they make it). It has to spend so long maturing at sea on a ship and of cause it completely changed the flavour and so it put on container ships and sent around the world and it comes back matured with marine flavours. Anyway this is about the Camus, yes it’s really lovely it has parmerviolets and has that cognac character you come to expect from a Camus. I’m not going to go to far into the flavours here because it’s up to you to find them, I don’t really want to spoil the surprise of the wonderful bouquet Camus is known for but then there are other layers that keep giving. In the second helping in a nice crystal brandy sniffer is where the nose seems to die down but this wonderful costal marine flavours really start becoming noticeable in the mouth, easily detected by a newbie or a novice but they are not over powering the Camus bouquet in the mouth . The finish is sweet and briney and softly Camus bouquet softly fades leaving rose water and sweet plumb. It’s really a classical soft flavourful Camus experience but with a pinch of salt. Easily worth 5 stars I’m impressed as usual when Camus is in my glass.
