Sempé Bas Armagnac '11 Bottling Note

With most Armagnacs being blended, here is a chance to try a single barrel expression. This Bas Armagnac from Sempé was distilled in 2011, and was barrel aged in local Limousin oak casks and bottled at cask strength.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Christmas cake, dried raisins, toasted walnuts, and oaky vanilla.

Reviews for Sempé Single Barrel Cask Strength Bas Armagnac 2011
Not the greatest
A second sitting, no, still not excellently great. Expecting more really at this price point other than novelty value. I guess it shows why armagnac is typically blended.

Grappa. Shame I don't really like grappa.
Oaky with a slightly off buttery nose in the beginning, lacking in, well, armagnacyness. Distilled in 2011 but no date when it was released from its cask. It is actually surprisingly light in flavour with a whopping alcohol content, almost with a fairly smooth fruity grappa flavour. Fine for aged grappa, but what I wonder about reading the tasting notes is a) what were they dr/thinking and b) why I paid over 60 quid for this when I could've just got something nice.
That'll teach me.
Not.

Amazing purity of flavour, never tasted an aged Armagnac like this before, got everything, grape, vanilla from cask ageing, and for such a high abv super smooth finish
