
When Esporao was founded in the 1985, Portugal did not have the best reputation for table wines. This red was instrumental in changing perceptions of what this country could do. A blend of all kinds of varieties, both Portuguese and French, it's become something of a modern classic. It's both robust and elegant at the same time, and particularly loves lamb dishes and hard cheeses.
Dark spices like liquorice and cloves on the nose with some slightly stewed fruit. On the palate there's leathery tannins, roasty dark notes, and a touch of bitter olive. Good freshness here and it seems to get more delicious the longer it is open.
