Cloudy Bay is New Zealand's most famous winery. You probably know it from its classic sauvignon blanc but you may not realise that it also makes first rate pinot noir. This is made from fruit grown in Marlborough. The grapes are given a cold soak to extract colour and juice before fermenting in open top stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in French oak casks which give it a lovely dusting of spice. Year in, year out, this is one of New Zealand's best reds and 2022 is no exception. Very good now, especially with duck, but will keep and improve for up to ten years.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
The nose is bursting with red cherries, raspberries and some herby notes while on the palate it's juicy with red fruit plus cloves and leather.
