Unavailable for 7 years even in Japan, age statement Yoichi has made an exciting return (in sadly small quantities at this stage) to these shores! The jewel in Nikka's crown, this is traditionally made, well-crafted Japanese single malt (direct-fired stills, worm tubs, proprietary yeasts, wooden washbacks) with real clarity, and notes of vanilla, fruit, some peat smoke, and a salty edge.

Its gone now. After it became known in a television series is the original barrel dried out quickly. Too bad I didn't know what I had when I had it.

I was really surprised by the taste of that whisky. I'll definitely buy another bottle!
This semi peated whisky has probably the most unusual taste i have ever felt. It is smokey in the beginning when it touches your tongue and then brings up some sweetness. I would suggest letting this whisky breath a little bit before taking a sip. Strong and full taste.
OMG! I feel such a fool for dismissing the idea of Japanese whisky. I know Japan a little, have a friend in Tokyo. I should have known better. When they decide to do something properly, they do and how. I'm not saying it's better than Scotch (god forbid) but it is better than a lot of the entry level 12 year old offerings from a lot of Scottish distilleries. This is sumptuous, rich, warm, spicy with a little salt, hint of nutmeg, honey, tropical fruits, smooth, mildly smokey. You can tell I'm drinking it as a write. I'll be buying a few more bottles of this. Not cheap though!
