Woodford Double Oaked Bottling Note

It's finally here - the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. This expression begins life being aged in the same way as the classic Woodford Reserve, but following this, it is further matured in barrels which have been heavily toasted and lightly charred. This imparts an added depth of sweet oaken character to the bourbon, as well as developing the fruit, vanilla and caramel notes.

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Reviews

My new favorite

I am far from a bourbon expert - having just decided to become a bourbon and rum snob about 8 months ago. But of the dozen or so bourbons I've tried, including the regular Woodford Reserve, this one suits me best. I haven't tried Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel yet, but I imagine this is similar. I like the sweeter, more honey-like flavor that comes with the second barrel-aging (similar to my favorite aged rum). I liked the standard Woodbridge Reserve very much, before trying the double-oak. Now, the standard version seems too watered-down by comparison.

There's this and a cheap Indian whisky that I can drink straight and enjoy.Got as a present nether knew I had so good friends.

You get what you pay for.

It is a nice change from the single oaked bourbons. From the first sip, you can taste the difference. It is more complex - there is something different here. I won’t pretend to give you “other” flavors, but as a bourbon drinker it’s like the difference between sugar and brown sugar. You can taste the additional flavors from the second barrel. It is all good, but I’d describe is it is “rich.” One refill to finish the ice cubes is enough. Worth a try.

Holds level with a longer confrontation with single malt.

So good

Beautiful bourbon. Complex, so smooth, and it’s great to sip on straight. Not harsh at all like some bourbons I’ve tried in the past. To me it’s like the bourbon equivalent of scotch.

31st May 2020

Oaky perfection!

The woodsy oak flavor sneaks in & out throughout its time on the palate, intermittently with vanilla & spice... this is a tremendous whiskey, in the running for my favorite bourbon.

30th April 2020

An exquisite Bourbon

I'm working my way through various Bourbons, and I have to say that the Woodford Reserve is one of the smoothest, most pleasant that I have tasted to date. No need to add anything, just sip it neat.

29th April 2020

Best value top shelf bourbon you will find . Just beautiful .

16th April 2020

Good smoke and vanilla notes

Awesome bourbon—- great neat or in an old fashioned

Outstanding bourbon. Worth the $. Very unique flavor and great finish

24th March 2020

It's a strong bourbon, but still very enjoyable. I love the oaky taste it has. I have mine on the rocks.

19th February 2020

I am fairly new to bourbon and very much a novice but this stuff is unreal. It's like a warm summers day!

12th February 2020

worst bourbon

it is worst bourbon i ever had, like some one disolved new wooden board, piece of furniture and glue in botle, hideus.
elijah craig, fr small batch buleit, evan wiliams, those are good bourbons, but this never again.

10th February 2020

The best

Best bourbon I've ever had. Smooth, woody, with quality.

3rd December 2019

This is why I drink bourbon

I was a scotch guy. This was my bridge to Kentucky. Complex and rich and just brilliant.

23rd November 2019

I’ve covered many bourbons and this is right up there with the best.

An elegant drop that will surprise.

Well done Woodford

21st November 2019

Simply divine.

I wish it was above 45% but i still think this is one of the best bourbons I've ever tried, and I tried some 3 times the price.

12th September 2019

Best of the baking world

Absolutely smooth with dominant flavors of butterscotch and brown sugar. Wonderful mellow spice flavor is perfect while having during baking season for the family gatherings. I generally prefer the spicier Four Rose's Single Barrel and rye whiskeys but this just had such a wonderful flavor that's a nice departure from the bite of rye. I highly recommend it for bourbon drinkers. Scotch fans may find this expression too sweet.

Woodford Rocks

I'm a Woodford Reserve Employee, great seeing all the awesome feedback from our Bourbon. We are releasing a new Wheat bourbon but not sure the availability. The Double Oaked is said to be one of the best.

11th August 2019

Smooth and very drinkable with no burn.

This is my favorite bourbon. Smooth as silk. I love it on the rocks. Cheers

5th August 2019

Best with a cigar.

The nicest drink to have with a fine cigar after a delightful meal.

2nd August 2019

One of the best.

Very very drinkable. I am impressed. Don’t usually drink this brand but it’s well worth the money just for the exceptional taste. Try it you’ll like it.

8th June 2019

Worth it

I like Woodford Reserve and drink it often (Blanton is my go to) so I thought I would give this a try. I kind of love it. I won’t go to it as often as this one for me is a mouthful. There’s a lot going on and once my mouth has a few seconds to take it all in it can be a bit much. If you like a sweeter very flavorful bourbon you just might find your new love.

12th May 2019

Deep flavour, spice of oaky notes and rye, dark cherries, a very very good bourbon.

5th April 2019

My go to now

5th January 2019

My favorite now.

My favorite bourbon now.

10th December 2018

Absolutely enchanting.

If you’re on a quest something new, look no further. As other reviewers mention, the double oak brings out delightful vanilla and caramel notes. Excellent for Fall and Winter.

20th November 2018

Great bourbon

Woodford has always been my bourbon of choice . The double oak clearly I's the next step for true bourbon conisscuer

22nd October 2018

Has its virtues.

I love Woodford. Not sure if this is better or worse than the reserve. Very Oakey. A bit piney. Very flavoursome, but a bit like the oak was lacquered.

20th October 2018

Best bourbon I've ever tasted. Fantastic!

22nd August 2018

Review from a single malt guy.

I'm a regular malt guy and appreciate style from most peaty Lagavulin to the smoothness Belvenie.
I avoid Bourbon for years as it always too sweet for my liking. My view of Bourbon has changed now.
My tasting note: Intensely caramelized with hint of liquorice and dried fruit on the nose. A drier style with light citrus and oak finishing.
It's a game changer for Woodford... It's ready to reach malt whiskey segment.
This is my personal opinion only. There's no single taste for everyone; there also someone who likes a taste.

14th July 2018

Go for the normal Woodford. Don’t bother with this one.

7th June 2018

It is a good quality bottle of bourbon. Must try.

I got this last night because I wanted a decent bourbon. And I have to say it is quite nice. It has a nice strong flavour. It is very smooth to drink and it's a quality bottle of bourbon. If you like bourbon, I recommend this to you. Even if you don't, you've got to try it at least. It smells quite good too. And this is my staple bourbon for now.

2nd June 2018

Overdone and acidic

It tastes like oak. Charred oak. The tannin content will make you pucker and you’ll taste acidy tannic oak on your cheeks fot a prolonged period. The rest is just hype IMHO. The regular Woodford is my go to bourbon. The double-oakef just takes up shelf space. And no more ne ever asks to try it twice.

30th May 2018

Comparing this to the normal Woodford, the slight spicy kick has been displaced by a heavier sweetness, a sweetness that's been cranked up to 11. I would assume comes from the second oaking. It's a pleasant sweetness nonetheless. A nice sipping bourbon.

16th February 2018

Great taste, great price, great conversation

This is my go to when it comes to bourbon. The price point is not too high, and it’s a great conversation piece for people who would normally shun any type of bourbon. This is always stocked on my bar and I highly highly recommend that you give it a try.

3rd December 2017

Before I tried it, I preferred cognac!
The best American whiskey I've ever tried!

30th November 2017

Extremely smooth!

19th October 2017

No doubt the best!

19th October 2017

The highest quality bourbon.

I have tried nearly every scotch, and every American whisky. This is the one that I buy by the case. I was able to obtain several bottles of pappy van winkle before prices went through the roof, and believe it or not, I prefer this.

1st June 2017

I love regular Woodford Reserve, but this expression is by far the worst mainstream >$30 bottle I have ever had. On the tip of the nose you get intense oak. At first sip, more intense oak and then finishes with more intense oak. It tastes like Woodford forgot about some barrels for far too long and then called it Double Oak so they could sell it. Finishing casks should bring new layers if flavor, not reinforce one dimensionality.

25th May 2017

The first time I had it I was blown away by the strong oak and vanilla flavor. I started craving it and went out and bought my own bottle. Fantastic value.

9th May 2017

Double Oak Goodness

I've tried all the KY burbouns, this is my favorite. Smooth and sweet the perfect combo for me.

27th March 2017

I read some reviews on this and thought I might give it a try. My brother was on a trip abroad because of work, and I asked him to buy this for me at travel retail. He did. Was a bit concerned cause it was a one liter bootle. Thought it might be to much to consume, and I am also more of a malt fan. My oh my, I was wrong. I have not tried a bourbon for at least 25 years. This is absolutely stunning. Now I am glad it is a one liter bootle, because it will be empty too soon. Recommended.

Fantastic addition to the drinks cabinet, I always seem to push the other stuff aside

I went out for dinner lastnight and saw this on the list, on a whim I ordered a double. I was extremely surprised by how good it was. I would highly recommend this drink, and as a matter of fact I plan on picking up a bottle myself really soon.

23rd February 2016

Very smooth . One of the best bourbons I've ever had.

29th January 2016

Glug Glug Glug

Absolutely beautiful bit of swallee

17th January 2016

So smooth, wonderful bourbon!

I'm a whisky fan, but this bourbon is one of the best things I have ever consumed. So smooth, full of flavours and you can easily feel the vanilla and caramel notes. Amazing.

14th January 2016

Smooth and rich.

14th December 2015

Pleasantly surprised

I had my suspicions that this was a bit of a marketing gimmick. But after having tasted it a few times now, and spent some time at a masterclass with a rep from Bacardi, who was also showcasing this stuff, this is above and beyond the quality of the standard Woodford Reserve. It's so smooth and almost syrup like in the mouth, there is little to no burn and it tastes so sweet and delicious, like burnt caramel infused with tree bark (pretentious depiction, I know, but that's what whiskey is all about). Very nice whiskey indeed, 9/10.

19th September 2015

One of The Best

Great taste and one of the smoothest bourbons I have tasted!

2nd August 2015

Love it!

I always keep a bottle of this around, as the cravings come often.
