Woodford Double Oaked

It's finally here - the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. This expression begins life being aged in the same way as the classic Woodford Reserve, but following this, it is further matured in barrels which have been heavily toasted and lightly charred. This imparts an added depth of sweet oaken character to the whiskey, as well as developing the fruit, vanilla and caramel notes.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Black cherries, toffee, dark chocolate, honey and toasted almonds.

Palate Rich and full with notes of baked apples, cinnamon, cloves and caramel.

Finish Creamy and smooth with vanilla and baking spices.

Reviews for Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Disappointing
Bought this off the back of the cheaper Woodford which is what got me started with this whole thing....
Thought the price hike would make a difference but we were left disappointed and prefer the entry level one.
Plenty of other bottles for this price that offer a much better experience.

Would but recommend this, or buy it again.

Prefer the standard Woodford Reserve
I really like the standard Woodford Reserve so thought I'd try this as a step up. Unfortunately its a step down. Woody, bitter and hot whereas the standard Woodford Reserve is smooth, vanilla and easy drinking. This was fine in cocktails but not great as a sipping bourbon.

Red apple, cherry and currants. This is truly superb.
N: Fleshy red apple.
P: Full flavoured. Cherry powder bomb.
A: There's a chalky currant finish with sufficient remnants of the cherry palate to remain wonderfully and subtly flavoursome.

Excellent
Bought as a gift as it’s his favourite. Smooth and brilliant in cocktails

Great in cocktails
Don’t agree with all the negative comments. I use this in all my bourbon based cocktails and I will continue to buy. I agree it is on the strong side but gives real depth to a Manhattan sweetened with sherry.

Bourbon concentrate
Treacle, vanilla, wet tobacco on the nose. Dark chocolate and mint, espresso on the palatte. Short to medium oaky finish (not a whole lot of flavour to the finish, nice bit of warmth). For me, a solid 3.5-4/5. At £40-45 I'll happily replace this bottle, anything above that and its getting a bit steep for what it is. Decent sipper. In fact, it's so easy drinking I've had to hide it at the back of the cupboard. My favourite of the Woodford Reserve range that I've tried so far. If you're a fan of coffee and dark chocolate flavours I think you'll really take to this.

Very Bitter
I was more than disappointed with this bourbon.Frankly I thought it was overly bitter and disgusting. $50 what a rip off.

One of the best
Great flavour profile, any of these one stars are probably not whiskey drinkers.
