WhistlePig is a fantastic brand of straight rye whisk(e)y which is distilled and initially matured in Canada before being aged further, at the WhistlePig Farm in Vermont. This 10 year old straight rye is made with 100% rye and delivers a full-on flavour profile of clove, mint, barrel char, creamy caramels and butterscotch. Properly excellent stuff.
Nose: Fresh peppermint and herbal thyme initially, with sweet vanilla and marzipan developing. Creamy butterscotch, raspberry jam and orange rind round it off.
Palate: Warm baking spices, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice burst to life and are tempered by sweet muscovado sugar, bright oak and dark chocolate. Vanilla cola and caramel shortbread linger.
Finish: Medium-length, with warm rye spices, sweet malt and sour cherries.

Very nice this one. Great balance to it. Possibly one of the best Rye I have ever tasted.

One of the best on the market. Not overpriced, well worth splashing out on

WhistlePig 10-Year Rye is, at best, a sub-par Rye. Despite its (somewhat) premium price, it actually has less depth than ryes which cost half the price. The high reviews that initially came out on this rye's release have now been (famously...perhaps infamously) called out as highly suspect and likely paid for. After the initial accolades (many of which were literally "cut and paste" repeat text), actual reviewers began to have their say. From that moment on, the reviews for WhistlePig began to nosedive. Is it awful? No.Is it fairly one-dimensional with a touch too much heat on top of a slightly bitter hay taste? You bet.

I bought this as a present for my cousin who enjoyed it but dismayed to find that the price has gone up by £5 since last year or a 7% increase. This makes it not very competitively priced compared to other retailers.

Nose - Oranges and herbsPalette - More oranges, herbs, sugar, bread.Finish - Moderately long, Warming alcohol more to the fore, otherwise as palette. Not a fan of rye but this is probably the best I have tried.

So good in a boulevardier. Rounder but also weirder than Rittenhouse. More characterful than any bourbon I’ve tried in the cocktail. As a standalone tipple, there was a note I spent weeks trying to place, and the eventual epiphany is the reason I am wading into the comments. It’s not one ingredient; it’s several at once. It tastes like the secret sauce of a Big Mac.

Horrible

This is a great rye whisky! Its the Nose on this that is the best part for me. My fav Nose on probably any whiskey I’ve tried Nose: rye off the bat, then baking spices, and this wonderful marzipan, fruity pie smell which is wonderful Palate: rye spice, little burn for me, vanilla and caramel, then the marzipan again on the finish with some baked fruits, it’s more predominant on the nose, it’s light and bright on the palate, good stuff

I really enjoy heavily caramelized tasting whiskeys, but sometimes I would love something a bit lighter & brighter - this hits you up front with a bit of cinnamon/clove and I pick up a bit of apple. Smooth - sweet - not at all syrupy. Thin bodied, but very nice.

Sweet rye on the nose. An intersesting balance of sweetness and dryness on the tongue. an enjoyable discovery.
