WhistlePig is a fantastic brand of straight rye whisk(e)y which is distilled and initially matured in Canada before being aged further, at the WhistlePig Farm in Vermont. The Master Distiller for WhistlePig is Dave Pickerell, who was the Master Distiller for Maker's Mark for 14 years, (so you know he's good).
Their 10 year old straight rye is made with 100% rye and delivers a full-on flavour profile of clove, mint, barrel char, creamy caramels and butterscotch. Properly excellent stuff.

Who cares where it's from, the liquid is smooth, rich and balanced. Go-to-choice for an Old Fashioned anytime. There's a reason you don't get many 10 year aged ryes out there and it's because they can't do it as well as these guys.

DISCLAIMER: So by now I'm sure most of us know this is a Canadian Rye Whiskey labelled as a Vermont Whiskey (if not, now you know). For that reason I shall give it a low rating and advise everyone to search for a bottle of Alberta Premium as that is what i am told this is. Now that that is out of the way allow me to say how magnificently amazing this whiskey is! Old book, dirt, mint, herbs, spices, sweet spicy malts. It's an amazing thing. If you can get a bottle of Alberta premium, please do so. If not, grab this as I did.

I share the previous rater's outrage at the deception perpetrated by the makers of Whistle Pig as to where it was bottled. That kind of perfidy must not stand especially when it comes to fine whiskey. However, the simple fact remains that this is a really, really good whiskey.
