Do you love whiskies that pack a big ol' blast of smoky brilliance? Then Peat Bomb is a single malt that's well worth a look! This expression is an 8 year old single malt from an undisclosed distillery on the isle of Islay, and as the name suggests, it's mightily peaty indeed. Earthy smoke, bonfire embers, simmering spice – it's all there and more.
Oatcakes, smoky bacon crisps, baked earth, cracked black pepper, with a whisper of caramelised nuts underneath.
Brown sugar, nutmeg, roast chestnuts, cask char, loads of phenolic notes drifting in.
Savoury oak with singed barley and sea salt crisps.
A Peat Bomb by name and by nature.

It wasn't as peaty or as smoky as I expected, so rather disappointing. As my favourite malts are Ardbeg and Talisker Storm, which are strongly flavoured, I should not have expected it to be of similar flavour.
Bit punchy at £50, but at £30 it’s really fantastic value. Lovely classic Islay dram.
When you meet friends or family faffing around with whether they like peated malt whisky or not, this calls for very precise action or they will drive you to drink. Don't waste any of your expensive Islay labels, keep these for yourself or fellow appreciants. Give them a big slug of Peat Bomb and see how they take it. If they pass the test and cross-over you can congratulate yourself on gaining a convert. If they baulk or question, then simply get rid of them out of your life and be done with them. No contact ever again, well maybe a Xmas card. This bottle takes no prisoners, neither should you.
Great vegative peat taste. Not overpowering and smooth. Definitely worth half the price.
Look out for this being on offer (which it is from time to time) at £30. At that price it's an absolute steal.
