In 2016, West Cork Distillers produced a trio of 12 year old Irish whiskeys initially matured in bourbon casks before being finished in a selection of casks. This expression was allowed a finishing period in Port casks, resulting in juicy fruit notes all the way through.
Blueberries, fudge, mint leaf and vanilla-rich barley
Malt loaf and salted butter. Hints of dark chocolate.

Picked up at Cadenhead's for £36 which is a fair price - I would not pay more. Beware any reviews on t'web: most are lazy press release cut'n'paste - I have only seen a couple of genuine reviews. Port finish? Bourbon casks? not that I could tell - but maybe that is a good thing because the spirit is very soft and fragrant. And despite it being Cooley (allegedly) tasted blind this is Irish but not in a big way. This is well made, with a light touch. What you get in the glass, is a thoroughly decent everyday light Irish 12 y/o malt - not overpowered by oak or sherry or macho fancy finishes. It's very nice actually.
From an avid bourbon and Tennessee whiskey drinker, who enjoys a single malt from time to time, I love this whiskey. I grabbed one, along with a bottle of Sherry Cask Finish, while passing through Dublin. I had no idea what I was getting into. Neat with a friend, it went way too fast. Prost!
Love this whiskey. Just gets better with age. Blueberries on the nose. A great sipper then a longer finish then most other West Cork malts.
